About

Dr. Irene Ma is a general internist and Professor of Medicine at the University of Calgary, where she also holds the John A. Buchanan Chair in General Internal Medicine. She serves as the Clinical Simulation Lead for the W21C team, focusing on human-based innovation and patient safety through education.

Dr. Ma earned her Medical Degree from the University of British Columbia, followed by an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from Stanford University and a PhD in Medical Education from the University of Calgary. She also completed an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she remains cross-appointed as Research Staff in the Division of Ultrasound in Emergency Medicine.

She is the Chair and Founding Member of the Canadian Internal Medicine Ultrasound group and serves as the Governor for the Prairie Provinces Chapter of the American College of Physicians.
